U.S. to host 2010 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup finals

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is set to return to the U.S. next year for the first time since 2005 as Windham Mountain Resort in New York has been chosen to host the series finale August 28-29, 2010. After successfully hosting a 2008 national calendar event, Windham Mountain resort hosts a UCI Category 1 event his year as the sixth stop on the 2009 USA Cycling Pro Cross Country and Gravity Mountain Bike Tours.
Plaxton and Pendrel win at Sand Creek; take Pro XCT lead

Max Plaxton topped a field packed with nearly 100 of the continent's best male mountain bikers on Saturday while fellow Canadian Catharine Pendrel won the pro women's race at the CTS Sand Creek International, the fourth event on the USA Cycling Pro Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-air (Pro XCT). With their wins both Plaxton and Pendrel move into the top spots in the standings with four of the seven series events completed. The next race on the 2009 Pro XCT will be the U.S. Cup at Mount Snow in Vermont on Aug. 8.

The fourth stop on the USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-Air (Pro XCT) is set to get underway this Saturday with the Carmichael Training Systems Sand Creek International Classic at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs. The June 13th event will welcome some of the world's top mountain bikers as they duke it out for the Pro XCT lead.
UCI mountain bike inscription forms due June 22

The UCI 2010 mountain bike inscription period is now open with a deadline of July 3, 2009. All inscriptions are submitted to the UCI through national federations, therefore the completed forms need to be submitted to USA Cycling by Monday, June 22, 2009. The 2010 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Calendar (MBNC) application period has also been bumped up to an earlier date this year to coincide with the UCI inscription period.
Taberlay and Pendrel win Pro XCT #3 Bump and Grind

Sid Taberlay outsprinted Jeremy Horban-Kobelski to take the victory at the third event on the USA Cycling Pro Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-air (Pro XCT) by a two seconds. In the women's event, Catherine Pendrel out dueled her Luna Chix teammate, Georgia Gould to win the Bump and Grind Pro XCT women's event near Birmingham, Ala. Max Plaxton and Gould lead the standings after three events. The next race on the Pro XCT will be the CTS Sand Creek International Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo. on June 13.

USA Cycling is offering a free webinar covering national program opportunities for mountain bike and cyclo-cross athletes. Set for April 13 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. MDT, the presentation will provide an overview on USA Cyclingandrsquo;s national programs and information on how athletes are identified, how to enter USA Cyclingandrsquo;s Development Pathway and the new European race program. Dr. Kristin Dieffenbach, Ph.D. will also be presenting a series of webinars in April, including Training on Limited Time coming up on April 9.
Compton scores bronze at cyclo-cross world championships

Katie Compton became the first two-time medalist in U.S. Cyclo-cross history on Sunday, winning a bronze medal in the elite women's contest behind world champion Marianne Vos (NED) and runner-up Hanka Kupfernagel (GER) at the 2009 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Holland. The silver medalist in 2007, Compton led the race for much of the first half before Kupfernagel and Vos joined her to establish the winning breakaway. Compton's bronze led a U.S. women's team that placed all five of its riders in the top 20.

USA Cycling announced today the addition of Jonathan Page to the U.S. National Team roster for next weekendandrsquo;s UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships. USA Cycling originally denied Pageandrsquo;s initial petition to the world championship team, citing his ineligible status stemming from an open anti-doping investigation at the time of the teamandrsquo;s selection on Jan. 14. But after those responsible for adjudicating the case cleared Page of any wrongdoing, it was announced today that Page would represent the U.S. in the Netherlands as a member of the elite menandrsquo;s roster on Feb. 1.
World championships to cap off Compton's stellar 'cross season

Two years after the most successful day in U.S. cyclo-cross history, Katie Compton is looking to accomplish what only one other American has managed to do in the 58-year history of the world championships - win a gold medal. Compton recently finished third overall in the 2008-09 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup standings with three victories to her credit. Also ranked third in the overall world rankings, the 2007 silver medalist leads a formidable U.S. squad with medal aspirations in this weekend's 2009 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.

American athletes brought home three medals from the 2009 UCI World Masters Cyclo-cross Championships last weekend, claiming one world title and two silver medals. Katherine Sarvary earned the gold medal in the women's pre-1960 class, while compatriot Lillian Pfluke claimed silver in the same category. Adding to the U.S. medal count was Katrina Baumsteiger, who captured her fourth consecutive silver medal after also placing second in 2006, '07 and '08. The masters world championships take place one week before the elite event, scheduled for Jan. 31 - Feb. 1 in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.

The USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships continued on Friday with four more junior national titles being awarded at the Home Depot Center Velodrome in suburban L.A. Shelbe Eck scored a national title in the women's 17-18 sprint while Ian Moir slipped into a stars-and-stripes jersey after his win in the men's 17-18 3-kilometer pursuit. Two more national titles were awarded in the men's and women's team sprint contests, and lots of racing that factors into overall omniums took place in the younger categories.

Kaitlin Antonneau and Shelby Reynolds rounded out the podium in fourth and fifth.

The road racing portion of the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships wrapped up in Cherokee Park on Tuesday with Stars-and-Stripes awarded in the menandrsquo;s 35-39, 40-44 and 45-49 age divisions. The time trial competition is set take place on Wednesday in Taylorsville, Ky. followed by three days of criterium racing in Churchill Downs.

Rashaan Bahati won the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar's 15th 2009 event, the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix on Sunday. After finishing second in Manhattan Beach, Lucas Sebastian Haedo takes over the NRC overall men's standings lead with 15 of 27 events complete, while Alison Powers continues to lead the women's individual standings. Colavita-Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light currently leads the men's team standings while Team Type I remained in the top spot on the women's side. The next event on the 2009 NRC will be the 2.3-rated Fitchburg Longsjo Classic, July 2-5 in Fitchburg, Mass.

The conference, strategically titled Echelon, is sponsored by Training Peaks and is set to cover a broad range of topics unique to Collegiate Cycling. Organizers hope to bring together the stakeholders of Collegiate Cycling to discuss progress and innovation in the world of Collegiate Cycling. Halfway through Collegiate season overall team race remains tight

With two of four USA Cycling Collegiate Cycling National Championships complete, both the Division I and II overall team standings are topped by a pair of ties. Fort Lewis College and Lees-McRae College are deadlocked atop the Division I standings with 37 total points, while the Colorado School of Mines and Colorado College lead the DII standings with 29 points apiece. The USA Cycling Collegiate Cyclo-cross National Championships will be held as a part of the overall USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships on Sunday, Dec. 14 at Tiffany Springs Park in Kansas City.
Two collegiate cycling conferences welcome new leadership

The North Central Collegiate Cycling Conference (NCCCC) will be welcoming a new director during the 08-09 season, while the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC) embraced new leadership this fall. With the appointment of Mark Guthart as the new conference director for the NCCCC and Joe Kopena as the primary conference director for the ECCC, collegiate cycling is looking forward to the future.

Nine colleges and universities were represented on site including Lindsey Wilson College, Pfeiffer College, Lindenwood University, Ripon College, Lees McRae College, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Marian College and Midwestern State University.

The USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships are set to begin this Thursday. The event, which runs through Sunday, July 5, will see the next generation of American track cyclists vie for 24 national titles at the Home Depot Center Velodrome in suburban L.A. Stars-and-stripes jerseys will be awarded to the winners in each of the men's 17-18 and women's 17-18 individual events and to the overall omnium winners in the men's and womens's 10-12, 13-14, and 15-16 categories.

The 2009 USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships have been relocated to the 7-Eleven Velodrome in Colorado Springs. The event, slated for August 18-23, will be open for online registration at Sports Base Online beginning Sunday, June 21. The high altitude and fast racing surface is expected to set the stage for world records to fall.
