USA Cycling names team for Continental Mountain Bike Championships

USA Cycling announced today the 21 riders named to the U.S. squad for the upcoming Pan American Continental Mountain Bike Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala, April 9-11. The U.S. contingent will compete in the men's and women's cross country, downhill, and four-cross competitions in Guatemala.
Venue, date change announced for 24-Hour Mountain Bike Nationals

USA Cycling announced today a change in the dates and venue for the 2010 USA Cycling 24-Hour Mountain Bike National Championships. The event will now return to Moab, Utah for 2010, to be held in conjunction with the 24-Hours of Moab event, October 9-10. The USA Cycling 24-Hour Mountain Bike National Championships were originally scheduled to take place alongside the 24-Hours of Big Bear in West Virginia, June 12-13. However, due to financial concerns, the West Virginia event has been cancelled.
Twelve U.S. teams registered as UCI Mountain Bike Teams for 2010

Mountain bike racing is getting underway around the world, and a record 107 teams have registered as UCI Mountain Bike Teams for thee 2010 season. The United States has the third highest number of UCI teams with 12, compared to the 14 Italian and 15 French squads. For U.S.-based pro teams that are not registered with the UCI, registration as a USA Cycling Mountain Bike Domestic Pro Team is required in order to be tabulated into the Pro XCT Team Rankings.
Plews, Borelli lead Ultra-Endurance standings after 2 events

The second event on the 2010 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Ultra-Endurance Calendar, the Spa City 6-Hour Mountain Bike Race, took place over the weekend in Hot Springs, Ark. Evan Plews and Rebecca Rusch picked up victories. After two events, Plews and Rita Borelli lead the elite men's and women's standings.

USA Cycling announced today the 2010 USA Cycling Professional Mountain Bike Gravity Tour (ProGRT). In its second year, the five-race series will continue to raise the level of competitive gravity racing across the Unied States by providing a consistent stage of international-caliber events for elite gravity racers to showcase their downhill skills. The leader of the Pro GRT overall rankings as of July 14, 2010 will also be an automatic selection to the United States World Championship team.

Four finish in top 20 in elite contests at Cyclo-cross Worlds

The 2010 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships wrapped up Sunday in Tabor, Czech Republic with the elite men and women going at it despite frigid temperatures and a snow laden course. Despite the withdrawl of America's top medal hopeful, Katie Compton, the U.S. managed to place four riders inside the top 20. In the womenandrsquo;s race Meredith Miller was the first American to cross the line in 12th-place, while USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Champion Tim Johnson was the first American across for the elite men in 14th.
Cyclo-cross Worlds open in Tabor with Junior and U23 men's races

The 2010 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships kicked off on Saturday in Tabor, Czech Republic with the U23 and Junior men duking it out on a course that was frozen from the region's heavy snowfall in recent weeks. In the junior race, Cody Kaiser was the first to cross the line for the U.S. National Team, in 33rd place, while Zach McDonald was the first across for the U23 squad in 28th.
2012 and 2013 Cyclo-cross World Championships headed to Louisville

USA Cycling is honored to announce that Louisville, Kentucky today was chosen by the Union Cycliste Internationale, cycling's international governing body, to host the 2013 Elite Cyclo-cross World Championships and the 2012 and 2013 Masters Cyclo-cross World Championships. This historic appointment is the first time the Cyclo-cross World Championships will be held outside of Europe in the 50 plus year history of the championships. These events will mark the first Elite Cycling World Championship of any discipline held on U.S. soil since the Track World Championships took place in Los Angeles in 2005.

On January 23, masters 'cross enthusiasts converged on Mol, Belgium to duke it out in the first world championship event of the 2010 season - the UCI Masters Cyclo-cross World Championships. U.S. riders grabbed six top-10 finishes in Mol, four of which were podium places.

USA Cycling announced today the final round of nominations to the United States National Team for the 2010 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic, Jan. 30-31. Five athletes were named to the elite men's squad, rounding out the 20-rider U.S. contingent. Jonathan Page, Tim Johnson and Ryan Trebon earned automatic nominations to the team while Jeremy Powers and James Driscol received discretionary nominations.

USA Cycling is pleased to announce Reynolds Cycling as an official sponsor and supplier for the national governing body's domestic and internationally-based development programs. Per the agreement, which extends through the end of 2012, Reynolds will provide road, time trial and track wheels to USA Cycling's junior, women's and U23 road development programs and endurance track programs.

Bill Peterson elected President of USA Cycling Board

Bill Peterson was elected President of the USA Cycling Board of Directors at its semi-annual meeting today. Peterson replaces previous board president Mark Abramson. Abramson was elected as one of two Vice Presidents on the board. Wayne Stetina was re-elected as Vice President. Jim Patton was re-elected as Secretary.

This year, USA Cycling will oversee more aspects of the UCI registration process, similar to the registration of UCI continental road teams. The official deadline for USA Cycling to submit registration materials to the UCI is March 14. Therefore, USA Cycling needs to receive all of the necessary documentation by March 12.

Clarification of UCI bicycle regulation interpretations

USA Cycling will be strictly enforcing all UCI rules regarding bicycles for all UCI races, Elite and Junior 17-18 National Championships, National Racing Calendar events and any selection event for an elite or junior international competition. At USA Cycling Masters National Championships, the eight centimeter height rule and the 3/1 aspect ratio will not be applied to components. All other UCI bicycle rules (weight, wheel type, rider position) will remain in effect as they were in 2009.

Held in Louisville, Kentucky 2008 through 2010, the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships are scheduled to go off in Bend, Aug. 30 andndash; Sept. 4, 2011 and August 27 andndash; Sept. 2, 2012.

Where Does My $30 Go?

Every year you pay USA Cycling $30 for a collegiate cycling license ($60 if you purchase a Road or Mountain Bike license, as well), your club pays a $50 renewal fee, and you pay to promote a race through USA Cycling, as well. So where does this money go? What do we do with it? First and foremost, every USA Cycling staff member is issued a company Porsche and a Learjet on his or her first day.

USA Cycling announced today the eight-person U.S. roster for the upcoming UCI Track World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, March 24-28. As the defending world champion in the individual pursuit, 19-year-old Taylor Phinney earned an automatic nomination to the men's squad. The 2009 world championships in Poland saw Phinney become the first American male to win an elite world title on the track in 13 years.

Multi-National Track Cycling Champion Michelle Bono died February 23, 2010 following a two-and-a-half-year fight against pancreatic cancer. She was 47 years-old. Michelle was a force to be reckoned with both on and off the bike. If she was told something was impossible she would find a way to make it possible. Her tenacity, determination, focus and, most of all, her willpower allowed her to achieve incredible things. All supporters are asked to donate to the Aishel House in her memory.

American athletes contested both the track and cyclo-cross World Cup finales over the weekend. On the track, Cody O'Reilly was the top American while Jonathan Page turned in the top finish at the cyclo-cross event. USA Cycling announced its 2010 regional development camps schedule and 20 Americans are preparing for the Cyclo-cross World Championships next weekend.
